Jerusalem: Captured and Pillaged by Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon 2 Kings 24:8–16

Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta daughter of Elnathan; she was from Jerusalem. / And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, just as his father had done. / At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched up to Jerusalem, and the city came under siege.

Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, the Valley Gate, and the angle in the wall, and he fortified them. / Since he had much livestock in the foothills and in the plain, he built towers in the desert and dug many cisterns. And since he was a lover of the soil, he had farmers and vinedressers in the hill country and in the fertile fields.
